Clark Construction Supports A Home for EJ

(From 2008) Clark Construction of Ridgefield, Inc. employees joined in the effort to build a new house for EJ Carfi, a Ridgefield fifth grader, who suffers from a very rare skin disorder known as “butterfly disease”.  This disease leaves the skin so fragile that is breaks and blisters at the slightest touch.

The Carfis home had  unfinished rooms, poor energy efficiency,  a poor layout for wheel chair access and no handicapped  bathrooms. Additionally, EJ’s family needed a clean room where EJ’s  bandages could be changed, a two to three hour activity that occurs each morning before EJ can head out to school.

The Carfis were a finalist to receive a new home from TV’s  EXTREME MAKEOVER program but another family was chosen instead..

At this point town residents gathered together and developed a plan to rebuild EJ’s home. Working together they engaged a number of area businesses, including Clark Construction, to help support the renovations.

Clark Construction participated in this important project by providing manpower during various phases of the job, from demo to carpentry, and final painting.

Gary Clark reports, “We were there when they needed someone, whether it was moving materials, or cleaning up at the end of the day.  They were able to count on us; and we were willing to pitch in to help wherever we were needed.”
